This position is located in the Grain Quality and Structure Research Unit in Manhattan, KS. The incumbent of the position will perform a variety of basic wheat milling laboratory, field, and research functions as it relates to the planning, gathering, and analysis of wheat samples.
This is a term position for 13 months with a possible extension of up to 4 years.

Duties of this position include:
Using chemicals, stock solutions, etc., to prepare solutions and reagents for use in the wheat milling laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
Assisting in collecting research data according to instructions and standardized procedures (e.g., recognition of valid data, data quality assessment and appropriate storage).
Assisting in resolving technical research difficulties and/or results.
Using specialized equipment (e.g. laboratory-scale wheat mills, grinders, separators, blenders, tempering and seed cleaning devices) to aid in the conducting of wheat/flour science research experiments.
Using word processing software to maintain detailed records of experimental data.

To qualify for the GS-04 position:
General and/or Specialized
Experience: You must have 6 months of general experience performing progressively responsible work that demonstrates your ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position to be filled as well as 6 months of specialized experience performing the following tasks under close supervisor:
Assisting in one or more phases of research process by performing a variety of standardized or routine duties in a wheat milling laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment;
Assisting with the use of a variety of wheat milling equipment to record instrument readings, collect samples, and take measurements;
Handling research samples; and
Updating records and inventories of wheat and flour materials.

OR
Education: You must have successfully completed two years of study above high school that included 12 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as grain science, agriculture, biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, or mathematics AND have at least 6 semester hours of courses directly related to the position. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS)
OR
Combination: You must have a combination of the experience described above and at least 12 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as grain science, agriculture, biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, or mathematics AND have at least 6 semester hours of courses which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position. For example, 6 months of the general experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 1 year of college study from an accredited institution which included the required coursework (50% of the qualifying education) as specified above equals 100% of the total requirement. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
