Essential Functions Counselor
Schedule: Monday - Thursday 11am-8pm, Friday 9am - 6pm; On Call coverage on weekends
This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, developing and implementing a professional, personal and group counseling program for assigned students and children in compliance with government and management directives. Among other duties, this position will:
- Review detailed background file, conduct personal interview and provide supportive services for each assigned student; refer students to other resources as appropriate and necessary.
- Provide continuous educational, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis; recommend necessary program modifications throughout the stay of each assigned student.
- Conduct continuous interpretation and evaluation of progress in student s specific development program; coordinate problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved; maintain documentation and records.
- Maintain contact with student s family and admissions counselor, utilize and establish community linkages and resources as needed, assist in solving personal problems such as child care.
- Provide direct aid to students with personal problems, e.g. sickness, injury, family problems, emergency and administrative leaves and AWOL retrieval.
Education and Experience Bachelor s degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in Social Services related courses) and one year experience in counseling or related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency also required. Unless waived by management, valid driver s license with an acceptable driving record.
