2K a year Company Description HCI is a leading multi-unit management company based in Manhattan, Kansas.
HCI's largest brand is Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers franchises with 30
locations throughout the Midwest, Texas and East Coast.
HCI is also growing Woof's Play & Stay, an upscale pet hospitality concept with nine locations in Kansas and Missouri.
HCI manages three locally owned and operated restaurants in Manhattan and Junction City and offers full-service catering to the central Kansas area.
In 2021 HCI added Booth Creek Wagyu, Meatworks of Kansas processing plant in Riley, KS and Booth Creek Wagyu Retail store in Manhattan.
Job Description The Payroll/HR Generalist will process 2 separate bi-weekly payrolls for all 9 brands that fall under HCI.
This position works to ensure accuracy of pay for all brands while managing state, federal, and local tax reporting as required.
This position also ensures accuracy of W2s and all end of year data for audits and federal reporting.
On the HR side the position will be responsible for unemployment and benefits backup.
Duties/
Responsibilities:
Manage full-cycle payroll processing and assist with exempt and nonexempt payroll transactions on a periodic basis.
Assist with internal/external payroll audits and compliance reporting including 401(k).
Ensure the processing of off-cycle payments for terminations by timely preparing and administering final checks within state regulatory guidelines.
Process manual tax adjustments, quarter-end adjustments, and year-end adjustments.
Assists with reconciling W-2's, and Form 1099, and other year-end activities.
Drive standardization and continuous improvement of payroll operations.
Oversight in payroll related input into month and quarter-end close activities; including but not limited to understanding payroll GL.
reporting, journal entries and reconciliations.
Process employee reimbursements ensuring compliance with company policies.
General knowledge of implications with respect to tax reporting.
Qualifications Strong Excel skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Preferred experience in Federal/State/Local payroll, garnishment, and tax law Analytical and problem-solving skills.
A foundational understanding of payroll including garnishments, bonus payments, special payments, and payroll taxes.
Ability to apply knowledge of business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities.
Ability to balance multiple priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines.
Basic skills preferred in payroll systems and Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
).
Ability to analyze problems and provide solutions.
Analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and execution with the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology and support process improvements.
