Automotive Worker

08/31/2020 Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a, Automotive Worker without more than normal supervision (Screen Out)). Applicants who do not meet the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT will not be given further consideration. Working Conditions The incumbent works both inside and outside. Work is usually performed on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, dust, dirt, grease, and fumes from vehicles. The incumbent is subject to cuts, abrasions, burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, strains and falls on slippery floors. Outside work requires the incumbent to service vehicles and machinery in all types of weather and requires repair for on-and-off road service. The incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and respirators. The health status of personnel is monitored periodically using biologic and serologic tests and physical examinations. Restrictions against contact with birds and livestock outside the laboratory may apply after entering high security animal facilities that are working with disease agents foreign to the United States. Physical Effort The work requires crawling under vehicles, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and arm and leg movement, and various strained and uncomfortable positions for a considerable portion of working time. Close hand-and-eye coordination is required in performing critical assembly and adjustment tasks. Frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, handling, and carrying of parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with support or with mechanical devices is required.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
